Finance for non-finance professionals

This training aims to help non-finance professionals raise their awareness of finance and use financial information in making better business decisions.

This 4 half-day programme will help participants to understand basic concepts of financial & management accounting, as well as reading and analyzing financial reports. During this course, participants will also grasp the purpose and methods of financial analysis.

The programme aims to provide non-financial managers with a greater understanding of the way finance affects their business performance in the organisation. This programme will enable them to develop their strategic thinking and ability for planning, and will help them to think big in the corporate world! 

 

Training Objectives:

The main objective is to raise the level of financial awareness of participants. This will enable them to use the financial information provided to make better short-term or long-term decisions in managing their businesses.

This training provides basic financial information and terms that will enhance professionals’ financial literacy. This leads to better understanding on how the business decisions about the organisation are made and how to increase their efficiency.

Who should attend?

This training programme is suitable for directors, managers or anyone who uses financial information in the course of their work. Prior knowledge of accounting/finance is not required.

  • What is the "accuracy" of financial statements?
  • Logic of preparing balance sheet, income statement (P&L), cash flow statement
  • Interrelationships between financial reports
  • Basic economic concepts: investments (CAPEX) vs. expenses (OPEX), assets, liabilities and capital, depreciation vs. cash expenses, profit vs. net cash flow
  • The impact of typical transactions on financial statement indicators

Part 2. Financial Analysis

  • Profitability ratios
  • Liquidity ratios
  • Solvency / gearing ratios
  • Investor ratios

 

Part 3. Management Reporting. Budgeting. Decision Making

  • Management reports
  • Variable vs. fixed costs
  • Relevant costs
  • Budgeting & budgetary control
  • Decisions on minimum pricing
  • Shut down decisions
  • Decisions on outsourcing ("buy or produce in-house")

Part 4. Working Capital Management. Investment Decisions

  • Cash flow management (advance payments, early bird prices; inventory management)
  • Fundamentals of investment valuation (NPV, payback period, etc.)
